Instead of walking with fear into your portrait experience, let me help you choose the path toward seeing yourself through your loved one’s eyes, specifically your fiancé’s, and overcoming fear in your portraits.
I’ve been in your shoes and completely understand where you’re coming from! I was PAINFULLY shy, not to mention insecure, growing up, too shy to converse with hardly anyone.
When my husband walked into my life, at our teen group at church, I didn’t utter a word to him for the full 5 months he was at our church, despite my huge crush!
(Thank God, he had a plan to get us together!! 😉
Between my camera & my husband,
my level of confidence & way I view myself
have changed, DRASTICALLY.
Once I had a camera in my hand, I became a different person! I started realizing what truly made a person beautiful.
I fell in love with capturing a person’s true personality!! Helping them feel comfortable during the photography process was important, so their genuine personalities could shine. Focusing on them, helped me become almost an extrovert, by encouraging them and enabling them to feel beautiful!!
I struggled daily with feeling like I needed to look and be perfect in every moment. However, he allowed me a safe space to simply be myself. He taught me that my imperfections were actually beautiful and actually, the things that made him fall in love with me!
You know the way your man is constantly lifting you up,
helping you see the beauty in yourself.
It’s the way he looks at you, truly seeing you the way no one else ever has,
that gives you that security and confidence.
Your Fiancé sees you, in your authentic form, and to him, you’re the world. You’re absolutely breathtaking.
Though it’s hard for you to believe, It’s my goal for you to see that too, through your portraits. Remember my story? I’ve been there. I’ve felt the awkwardness & frustration, but I also found a solution.
I understand that having your portraits taken can sometimes be an intimidating experience. The thought of being in front of the camera can stir up feelings of fear and self-consciousness. This is why it’s key to find a photographer you can trust to guide you throughout the process!
I’m here to share 4 secrets that I’ve learned on how you can overcome fear and feel confident in your portraits!
Embrace your individuality, quirks, and all those little imperfections that make you who you are. Remember, beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, and forms. So, instead of focusing on what you perceive as flaws, celebrate your uniqueness and let your confidence shine through.
Chances are, your fiance’ fell in love with those little “imperfect” things!!!
To truly feel confident, and begin overcoming fear in your portraits, start by being kind to yourself.
Take a moment to look in the mirror and acknowledge the qualities you love about yourself. Remember, confidence begins from within, and when you feel good about yourself, it radiates in your portraits.
Take the time to truly acknowledge your fiance’s compliments, and take them to heart. Maybe even ask what he loves most about you and dwell on those sweet reminders!!
Before your session, have an open conversation with them about your insecurities, concerns, and what you hope to achieve through the portraits.
Sharing your vulnerabilities will help them capture your best angles and stay far away from your insecurities. Because a skilled photographer will listen attentively and work with you to create an environment that makes you feel comfortable and at ease.
During your engagement session or wedding portraits, don’t hesitate to communicate your needs or preferences. If there’s a particular angle or pose that makes you feel more confident, let the photographer know.
Remember, they are there to capture your best self, and they will be more than happy to accommodate your requests.
As an added little tip, I always recommend movement and genuine interaction between you and your fiance’ as your photographer captures your portraits!! This allows for more natural images and keeps you from feeling stiff and awkward!!
But here’s the truth: vulnerability can be a beautiful and empowering experience. When you let go of your inhibitions and allow yourself to be seen, you create space for authentic and meaningful portraits.
Again, your fiance’ loves WHO you are. Overcoming fear in your portraits means that you’ll need to embrace that, and lean into their love.
To overcome fear and embrace vulnerability, remind yourself that you are in a safe and supportive environment. Trust your photographer and their expertise. They know how to capture your genuine emotions and showcase your beauty in a way that feels comfortable and true to you.
Remember, vulnerability is not a weakness; it’s a strength. Embrace it! You’ll be amazed at the stunning portraits that can be created when you let your guard down and simply enjoy every single moment together!!
Please don’t be discouraged if you feel a little nervous during your first portrait session. As you interact with your photographer, enjoy an engagement session, and see incredible results, your confidence will naturally grow.
This is why we always suggest considering scheduling an engagement session to get more comfortable in front of the camera before your big day.
Doing so will give you an opportunity to build rapport with your photographer! You’ll also get to experiment with different poses and become more at ease with the process. With each session, you’ll become more familiar with your best angles, expressions, and the techniques that make you feel most confident.
Remember, overcoming your fear in your portraits is all about: embracing your unique beauty, communicating with your photographer, allowing yourself to be vulnerable, and accepting the unconditional love that your Fiance’ gives to you every day.
With these tools in hand, you’re ready to rock your next portrait session and capture stunning images that truly reflect the confident, beautiful person you are.
